George Barret sen., r.a. (Dublin 1728/31-1784 London)
George Barret senior (c. 1728–1784) was a renowned Irish landscape painter, known for his idealized depictions of British and Irish landscapes. Born in Dublin, he began his career coloring engravings and teaching drawing, before training under Robert West. His talent attracted the attention of Edmund Burke, who encouraged him to paint from nature and introduced him to influential patrons, such as the Earl of Powerscourt.
In 1762, Barret moved to London, where he quickly became one of the most sought-after landscape painters of his time. He was a founding member of the Royal Academy in 1768 and exhibited there regularly until 1782. His works, often commissioned by the aristocracy, depicted picturesque views of country estates and wild landscapes, particularly in Wales and the Lake District.
Today, Barret's paintings are highly sought after and command high prices on the art market. In 2010, two of his works sold for a total of $760,567 at Christie's in London. This belated recognition underscores the importance of his contribution to 18th-century landscape painting.

Philibert-Louis Debucourt (1755–1832, Paris) was a French painter and printmaker renowned for his elegant genre scenes and satirical works reflecting Parisian society in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Trained at the Académie Royale de Peinture, he initially made his mark with paintings, but he became particularly well-known for his etchings. He mastered the technique of color aquatint, which he perfected to produce lively, often humorous scenes of daily life, social strolls, and bourgeois interiors. He also produced social and political caricatures, influenced by the radical changes of his time, particularly the French Revolution.
